Langford Triathlon — Long Term Agreement

Letter to Langford City Council

August 31 2016

To Langford City Council;

Thank you for the opportunity to introduce and grow the Langford Triathlon in our community. Since the inaugural event in July 2015, we have learned what we do well, where we can improve and how we can better involve the community.

I am writing this letter to ask for the opportunity to set the framework for a long term partnership with the City of Langford to host Triathlon events. We believe as you do in encouraging an active, healthy lifestyle for it residents through sport and recreation. The new infrastructure improvements in Langford have allowed us to boost the athlete experience at our race.

We have committed to work with the lake residents to minimize any noise and involve them in the solution process. We have adopted all the recommendations put forward by your staff during our meeting. We recently met with Cheryl of City Centre Park, Susan, Cory & Mike from Parks, Kirsten from Engineering and Mo Alton, a lake resident who shared his skills in the area of sound to create solutions that will benefit all of us.

This year’s event was a HUGE success. We grew our athlete numbers by 30, had participants between the ages of 16 – 74 and saw athletes come from faraway places like Whitehorse, 100 Mile House, many from the mainland (Surrey, Squamish) and Colorado. We have an opportunity to showcase our beautiful community and the spirit in which we embrace sport.

We would like to see the triathlon continue in Langford and grow as a destination race on the triathlon circuit. To ensure the event’s future, we would like to request a memorandum of understanding to guarantee the race continue for the next 3 years. This will help us to plan in advance to create the best race experience possible.

Thank you for your consideration

Respectfully,

Kirk & Stephanie Lewis

For consideration – a few comments from this year’s event

Hello Stephanie,
Thank you very much for directing the 2016 Langford Triathlon. It was a delightful grassroots event to attend; well organized; safe as best you could; generous awards and scenic routes. I always feel anxious on an open bike course so I’m glad that I took up your suggestion to drive the bike route on Saturday, just to get a picture in my brain. Having done that, and with your volunteers at key intersections, I was just fine as I made my way around the course. Please extend my gratitude to your group of volunteers.
Cheers,
Pat Hayward

Hi Stephanie,
So again, a big thank you to all the organizers and volunteers – as participants it is easy to forget how much hard work and man power is up in behind the scenes, but it is greatly appreciated.
See you next year!
Sara
