COMMENTARY

In recognition of Winnie Sifert and her commitment to public service, City staff are proposing naming the park and trail in Kettle Creek after Winnie. This recommendation is in line with the Park Naming Policy (POL-0120-PARK), section d (ii), the honouring of special persons who contributed to the community by way of public service, this is not to be a memorial park.

Winnie Sifert served as a member of the City of Langford Council from 1992 through to 2018. Being one of the longest serving Councillors, Winnie played a large role in establishing Langford after incorporation and setting the course moving forward. During her tenure, she served as Chair of the Transportation & Public Works Standing Committee as well as Langford’s representative for the West Shore Parks and Recreation Commission, West Shore Chamber of Commerce, Regional Water Supply Commission and Juan de Fuca Water Distribution Commission. Prior to her time as Councillor, Winnie also volunteered with the Economic Development Committee, Committee for the Royal Museum and various Incorporation Committees.
