Staff Report - Extension of VCMMC Parks and Boulevards & Trails Maintenance Agreements

Extension of VCMMC Parks and Boulevards & Trails Maintenance Agreements
Background
On September 8, 2014, the City entered into a Parks and Boulevard Maintenance Contract and a Trails Maintenance Contract with Victoria Contracting and Municipal Maintenance Corporation (VCMMC). These agreements expired on April 30, 2019, were extended for an additional six months in both March 2019 and October 2019. These agreements will expire on April 30, 2020, unless renewed or extended.
Commentary
The City and VCMMC are currently working together to renew the current Parks and Boulevard Maintenance Contract and the Trails Maintenance Contract. The City and VCMCC are confident that a new agreement will be achievable in 2020. If the contracts are allowed to expire, the City will not have a Parks and Boulevard or Trails Maintenance contract in place.
Options
That Council extend the Parks and Boulevard Maintenance Contract and the Trails Maintenance Contract with VCMMC until July 31, 2020, or until a new agreement is approved by Council, and that Council authorize the Mayor and Corporate Officer to execute the agreement.
That Council does not authorize staff to extend the Agreements at this time.
