Subject
Award of West Shore Parkway Sewer Lift Station Engineering Design
Background
The City has a New Building Infrastructure Grant for the West Shore Parkway Completion Project. The roadworks and improvements associated with this grant were completed with the road opening in the Fall of 2017. The last remaining item to be constructed that is funded from this grant is a new sewer pump station located at the south end of the West Shore Parkway at Sooke Road.
The purpose of this report is to obtain approval to award the engineering design for this lift station.
Commentary
Westshore Environmental Services (WSES) is the sewer provider for Langford. WSES is completing their master sewer servicing plan using Kerr Wood Leidal Associates Ltd. (KWL). KWL is also working for the City at the location where the new sewer lift station will be located to undertake all of the drainage assessments for this area.
KWL has most recently designed the Austin Pump Station on Gorge Road, the Dysert Pump Station in Saanich and three for WSES in recent years.
For all of these reasons it is recommended to award the detailed design of the sewer lift station to KWL who have extensive experience designing lift stations.
KWL has provided a cost estimate of $160,000 plus GST for the system planning, detailed design and tendering of the sewer pump station.
Financial Implications
The project can be funded through the New Building Canada Infrastructure Grant.
Legal Implications
None noted.
