Langford Planning Commission
City Hall,
Langford, BC

Submission for preservation of of greenbelt in the Humpback Valley Corridor
(Including Ravenwood Estates, Irwin Road, and Humpback Valley Road)

Whereas:

  • The Humpback Valley Corridor is one of the few remaining green spaces in Langford, and
  • The existing road structure of Irwin Road and Humpback Roads were not designed for high traffic situations, and
  • The Humpback Valley Corridor runs through the principal watershed and drinking water reservoir for Victoria and Langford, and
  • The Humpback Valley Corridor runs through substantial areas of parkland, and
  • The residents of the Humpback Valley Corridor have expressed in an overwhelming majority that they would prefer to maintain the rural nature of their neighbourhood,

I therefore submit:

That the Humpback Valley Corridor should be preserved by the planning commission as a low-density greenbelt zone. To further this end I submit the following steps to be considered by the planning commission:

  • Resist removal of any land in the HVC from the GB4 zoning unless for a practical consideration such as property line adjustments.
  • Refuse to approve any applications for high-density housing, including condominiums, townhouses, postage stamp lots, and housing developments in general within the HVC.
  • Acknowledge that preservation of the existing rural character of the area is in keeping with the official community plan, which does allow for some areas of vegetation to be left in Langford.

I respectfully request this submission be officially acknowledged in the commission's minutes, and that the matters raised herein be given thoughtful consideration.

Si cer y,
. Ridgl y Clark
