Sand Sculpting Exhibition
People poured through the gates of the annual sand sculpting exhibition in Parksville over five weeks, with a view of the people’s hearts.
With more than 2,000 votes, the public selected “Three Bugs” by Jason Langlois as the top spot in the solo category, and “Finding Beauty” by Edith van de Wetering and Wilfred Stigter of the Netherlands.
“By far my first people’s choice in a while,” the artist said after learning of the win. “Thanks all and thanks to all the volunteers and sponsors and board members and other sculptors who make this amazing event happen every year! It is special.”
The Quality Foods Sand Sculpting Exhibition welcomed 1,??? visitors, according to the Parksville Beach Festival Society that hosts the five-week event.
“As the sculptures are carefully dismantled and the sand is stored for future use, we’re reminded that while the sculptures may only be here for a short time, their impact lasts much longer,” the society said in a post-event update.
The festival continues to give back, with 2025 grant proceeds supporting 23 local not-for-profit organizations and community initiatives. Since 1991, the society has contributed more than $1.2 million to the community.
