## HEALTH / COMMUNITY BENEFITS

### HEALTH
Tennis is a fun and active sport which teaches cameraderie, social graces and good sportsmanship. It’s a sport for life for all age groups and an inexpensive, unobtrusive way for families to enjoy a sport within the community. Unfortunately, the availability of tennis courts has not kept pace with the rapid residential and commercial growth of the West Shore area.

### DEMAND
Several courts were lost to residential and commercial development over the past two decades. Royal Roads University (RRU) has informed us that upon approval of their expansion plans, we will no longer have use of the courts we currently use. So we must find a permanent location for our nearly 100 year old tennis club.

### PROGRAMS
- Our summer Junior program is thriving and oversubscribed. Some of our students have gone on to become ballboys/girls and champions at major tournaments!
- Our coaches offer private individual and group lessons, including wheelchair tennis.
- We offer social and competitive singles and doubles, weekly group plays for all skill levels, and drop-in tennis.

### SOCIAL
We organize many fun and competitive events throughout the year such as junior and senior tournaments, potluck socials, special occasions, club exchanges and participation in South Island Tennis League. Our annual Gllangcolme Tournament, now in its 40th consecutive year, has been attracting players from as far away as Vancouver. This brings people here from outside the community who frequent local businesses including restaurants, hotels etc.

### WHO WE ARE

Source pages: 16–24

## WHO WE ARE

Langford Tennis Club (LTC) is a BC-registered non-profit Society established in 1925 and is one of the oldest tennis clubs in BC. Originally located on Claude Road on wooden courts in 1925, we then moved to Centennial Park in Langford in 1957. LTC outgrew the 2 courts so relocated at RRU in 1998 to the present time.

There are 3 asphalt courts which LTC has upgraded and maintained at its sole expense since 1988. We also have a clubhouse, perimeter fencing, backboard and a ball machine. In 2011 we updated our Constitution and Bylaws to reflect our growing status and currently have 2 registered coaches, 5 directors, 100 active adult members, and 50 junior members.

## WHAT WE CAN DO

Historically we have always raised funds to upgrade and maintain our courts, viewing deck, surrounding grass area and portable Clubhouse. Membership dues cover all maintenance and supply costs and permits, setting aside reserve funds for large expenditures.
