Staff Report (Planning): CRD Regional Foodland Access Program
Date:
May 21, 2019
Department:
Planning
Subject:
CRD Regional Foodland Access Program
Background
On April 24th, 2019, the Chair of the CRD Board sent the attached letter and information package to Mayor and Council to inform Council of the CRD Board’s recent resolution in regards to a Foodlands Access Program and foodlands trust in partnership with a non-profit organization. The CRD Board has asked whether:
- The City of Langford would support the CRD operation of a foodlands trust;
- The City of Langford is willing to participate in funding CRD operation of a foodlands trust;
- The City of Langford is able to add municipal lands to a CRD-operated foodlands trust (and to specify which lands are to be considered);
The CRD Board has asked for feedback from Langford by May 31st, 2019.
Commentary
At the present time, the City of Langford does not have any municipal lands that would be suitable for inclusion into a foodlands trust, and therefore Council may wish to simply indicate to the CRD Board that Langford cannot contribute land to this endeavor.
Financial Implications
Council can choose to either opt in to funding this proposed new initiative, or not. There would be no foreseeable financial implications if Council chose not to participate in funding this initiative.
Legal Implications
No foreseeable legal implications.
