### Subject:
Participation in an Initiative to Create a Jurisdiction Specific Regulation for Mass Timber Construction

### Background:
The purpose of this report is to seek Council’s support by resolution to participate in an initiative to develop Jurisdictional Specific Regulations for the construction of Mass Timber Tall Buildings within our jurisdiction with the Building and Safety Standards Branch (BSSB).

### Commentary:
Based on early interest in Encapsulated Mass Timber Construction (EMTC) by DB Services and further to the recent announcement by the province that contemplates changes to the building code to allow for wood construction buildings to reach 12 storeys (up from six storeys), the BSSB has reached out to all local governments to canvas their interest in participating in discussions to the development of Code changes that would be specific to the interested jurisdictions. Eligibility for participation in discussions requires a resolution by Council to show support for this initiative.
