## Staff Report to Council

2nd Floor · 877 Goldstream Avenue · Langford, BC Canada · V9B 2X8

Date: February 4, 2019
Department: Engineering
Subject: BC Transit Renewal of Station Avenue Transit Exchange

### Background

The City and BC Transit constructed and opened the Station Avenue Transit exchange ten (10) years ago. BC Transit has a land exchange agreement in place with the Island Corridor Foundation (ICF) for use of this area for their facilities. The City in turn has a maintenance agreement in place to maintain the garbage cans and to remove graffiti from shelters as needed.

To date there have been no significant issues with this facility and it is well used.

### Commentary

BC Transit’s current lease expires August 31, 2019. BC Transit wishes to renew the existing lease for another 5 years to expire in August 31, 2024.

Staff recommend that we continue to support the Station Avenue Transit Exchange.

### Financial Implications

The budget for ongoing garbage and graffiti removal services is already contained in the proposed Engineering 5 year operating budget at a cost of $320/month.

### Legal Implications

None noted.

### Options

That Council:

1. Support the renewal of the BC Transit land exchange with the Island Corridor Foundation for the Station Avenue Transit Exchange for another five years for August 31, 2019 through to August 31, 2024 and continue to budget for garbage and graffiti removal at the Station Avenue Transit exchange for that same timeframe;

OR

2. Do not support the renewal of the BC Transit land exchange with the Island Corridor Foundation for the Station Avenue Transit Exchange.
