Staff Report – 2016 Langford Show and Shine (Goldstream Avenue lane closures)
Date:
August 15, 2016
Department:
Engineering
Subject:
2016 Langford Show and Shine – Goldstream Avenue lane closures
Background
Last year the Langford Show and Shine attracted 175 participants and had hundreds of residents, car lovers, and families attend to view and vote on classic muscle cars from the fifties, sixties and seventies. This year’s Langford Show and Shine will be taking place on Sunday, August 21st, 2016. Lane closures along Goldstream Avenue and Bryn Maur Road will be required.
Commentary
This year is the 6th Annual Langford Show and Shine and will require the closure of lanes along Goldstream Avenue between the archway and Peatt Road as well a partial closure of Bryn Maur Road (see attached map). The event is set to take place between 10:00am and 3:00pm, however, the lane closures will be required from 7:00am until 4:00pm to allow for the participants to park their vehicles and for volunteers to set up and take down the tents, tables, and chairs. Emergency services, BC Transit, and local radio stations will be notified in advance of the closures by way of a traffic advisory. City staff will post a notice of the event and lane closures on the City’s website. Advertising of the lane closures will also be posted prior to the event along Goldstream Avenue by way of signage and digital reader board signs.
Financial Implications
Any minor costs incurred could be paid out of the community festivals budget. Similar to last year the barricades, cones, and garbage cans will be donated by Victoria Contracting and Municipal Maintenance Corporation and portable washrooms from Coast Environmental.
Legal Implications
With the adoption of the Traffic Bylaw on December 3, 1996, Council has jurisdiction over this matter.
Options
That Council:
- Approve the lane closures (as shown on the attached map) on Goldstream Avenue on Sunday August 21th, 2016 between 7:00am and 5:00pm for the 6th Annual Langford Show and Shine.
