[Image 1: Email from Matthew G. S. Baldwin (Director of Planning) replying about rezoning signs]

Good morning Ms. Sustersich,

Thank you for your email of yesterday afternoon.

The owners of 566 Treanor Avenue have applied to rezone a portion of that property to the Residential Small Lot (RS3) zone in order that they might subdivide and create a second dwelling on that property on the newly created lot.

The City sends a more detailed notice to property owners within a 100 m (330 ft) radius of the property being rezoned. This is in accordance with the requirements of the Local Government Act. The City is also required by the Act to post a notice of Public Hearing in two issues of the same newspaper. These ads typically appear in the Goldstream Gazette.

We feel that the level of information that is provided on the Public Hearing sign is adequate, and meets the requirements of both Council's Public Notification Procedures Bylaw (Bylaw No. 223) and the Local Government Act. Providing additional detail on the sign can become complicated if circumstances about the development proposal change. Signage is prepared usually several weeks prior to the Public Hearing, and if the signage makes statements about the rezoning that turn out to be incorrect it can be difficult to clarify misinformation at the public hearing. The sign serves as information about the Public Hearing and how concerned individuals may contact City Hall (as you have done) to obtain additional information about a rezoning application. Hopefully, the additional information that the Planning Department provides will be sufficient to inform people about whether they feel a need to address Council on the matter of rezoning at the Public Hearing.

I trust that this information is satisfactory.

Sincerely,
Matthew G. S. Baldwin, MCIP, RPP

Message:

Can you please tell me what is proposed for 566 Treanor?

Also, what is the rationale for the city signs which simply tell you a zoning amendment has been received? I have lived in other towns where the signs give you the information you need to decide whether or not to attend public meetings. City signs should give the public some idea as to the rezoning. Perhaps this is a way to decrease the number of people who may show up to voice concerns? Thank you

Esther Sustersich
