### Background

## Background

For the past six years, the City has given Belmont Secondary School $10,000 towards their Dry Grad celebration at Eagle Ridge Arena. The students have contributed back to the municipality by volunteering their time to plant trees, shrubs and flowers throughout our community parks and roadways.

## Commentary

This year the Parks and Recreation Department proposed to the school that Grade 12 grad students become "Stewards" of Hull's Trail; a highly used trail from the new school campus to Westshore Town Centre; Goudy Field and area. The students responded enthusiastically, offering to pick up litter and monitor this trail for cleanliness during school hours for the rest of the school year until the end of June, and in perpetuity from year to year.

In order for the Belmont students to start their volunteer litter pick up now rather than in May when budgets are approved, staff would like support giving the school pre-approved funding of $10,000 now.
